Program Description
Building on the documented success of current biomedical pilot project funding of UC Davis programs, the CTSC undertakes several innovative enhancements to support clinical and translational pilot investigations. The overall purpose of the Pilot and Collaborative Studies Program is to rapidly advance clinical and translational research by providing research funding as well as robust, integrated, scientific, administrative and educational support to pilot and other novel studies.
In order to accomplish the overall purpose of the Pilot and Collaborative Studies Program, its structure and functions addresses the following specific objectives.

Rapid and rigorous development, evaluation, and selection of pilot studies consistent with the mission of the CTSC.

Thorough integration of the Pilot and Collaborative Studies Program governance and activity with the overall work of the CTSC, thus providing seamless and comprehensive collaborations between all aspects of the CTSC and funded pilot investigators.
The purpose of the Pilot and Collaborative Studies Program is as follows:
– Encourage collaborative and multidisciplinary investigations
– Fund investigations to develop novel research methods or improve the efficiency of research
– Provide funding for both junior and established investigators
– Provide integrated resources for funded pilot investigators, including study design, regulatory support, access to specialized core services, and help with data collection and analysis.
– Assist in the wide dissemination of results by providing a method for data sharing and centralized databases
